  1. Skin Prep

    1. Preparing a good canvas is very important for makeup. Without good preparation, makeup will be much harder. So let's not forget this step.

    2. I know many people (including me) are proud of their facial hair. However, if you want your prosthetic to stick well, you need to shave it. (No need to shave your eyebrows!) I love to use OneBlade. This shaver is very gentle on your skin and easy to use. I kept my beard since it will actually help my werewolf makeup to be hairier.

    3. The next step is Kiehl's Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion. This will take off extra oil from your skin and tighten it. This will make prosthetics stick better.

    4. Derma Shields go over this. It will protect my skin. You can skip this if your skin is not sensitive.

  2. Bald Cap (Optional)

    1. This step is optional. If you want to keep your own hair as part of the makeup, you do not need to do this part. In the video, I made a cowl piece with a bald cap. You can check this link for how to make it. I might make another blog for this in the future.

    2. First, place a bald cap on your head. If you have long hair, tuck it inside the bald cap. Tancho Hair Wax or got2b glued hair spray will help. Do not put Tancho Hair Wax on your skin. This will make the glue NOT stick. Keep it only on your hair.

    3. Paint Pros-Aide on your skin near the hairlines. Use Q-tips to paint it on. If you want better bonding, paint it on both the bald cap and your skin. Let them dry before attaching them together.

Pros Aide on both sides for stronger bonding.

    4. Trim the extra edge of the bald cap. Glue the rest of the edges.

    5. Use a powder puff to put RCMA No Color Powder over the edges.

    6. In the video, werewolf hair is already on. You can put it on when you apply facial hair later.

  1. Prosthetic Nose

    1. Since my prosthetic will go over my eyebrows, I need to flatten them with Pros-Aide.

    2. Start from the end of an eyebrow. Flatten it toward the hair direction. Continue this until the beginning of the eyebrow. During this process, keep your eye closed. You do not want eyelids sticking together. Placing a piece of cotton puff might help.

    3. After it dries, put powder on the glue.

    4. Now, it is the fun part. Have your nose prosthetic ready. Wipe off any mold release residue if any. Then, paint Pros-Aide on the backside of the prosthetic. Also, do the same on your skin. Let them dry with cool air. Do not use a hair dryer. The gelatin prosthetic will melt.

    5. This is up to your skill level. You can paint glue on the entire back of the prosthetic if you want. If you are not experienced, you can do small parts. Start with the center of the nose. Then, glue more as it goes to the edge.

      Start from the center.

    6. When you glue them together, push it down to remove any bubbles.

    7. Put powder on the edge with a powder puff.

    8. When you see the thick edge, use Witch Hazel. Dip a Q-tip in Witch Hazel and tap it on the edge. It will melt the edge. Do NOT overpaint Witch Hazel. It might create harder edges.

    9. Use a makeup spatula to apply Bondo (Pros Aide Mixed with Cabosil) on a hard edge if needed. Make it blend into your skin.

    10. Use a red sponge (rough grit sponge) and stipple Cream Bondo on the edge. This will create some skin textures.

    11. Powder again.

    12. Stipple W.M. Creations Soft Sealer over the gelatin prosthetic. It will make the surface stronger and paintable. Also, it will take off the powdery look.

    13. If you have werewolf ears, do the same as above. If not, skip this part.

  2. Painting

    1. It is painting time! I recommend you put all glue and glue brushes away from your makeup station. You do not want any sticky stuff around paintbrushes. It would be a disaster.

    2. Start with an RMGP base color. For this makeup, I use a very light skin color. Even though RMGP is for "Rubber Mask," I like using this for any prosthetics. It is more flexible than alcohol paints. You can use 99% alcohol to thin it down and paint over the skin.

Don't forget coloring on a neck!!

    3. Next color is Grey. Brush it on the "shadowing" areas such as eye sockets, under cheekbones, temples, ears, under jaws, etc. Just imagine that you are creating a skeletal look. Smudge the sharp edges of colors.

    4. Deepen the grey areas with Black RMGP.

      Add some shadow colors.

    5. After the base color is done, it is airbrush time! I use thinned W.M. Creations Pink 6205. This color adds some warmth to it. Add 99% alcohol to make it diluted. Use a wavy motion and create a mottled look everywhere.

    6. The next color is PPI Illustrator Black. Airbrush it to add depth and make a gaunt look.

    7. At this moment, you might think the coloring is more "Halloween Horror Nights." Stipple a base RCMA skin color again over the airbrush paint. This will make a blended look. All the airbrush color will show through and look more organic.

    8. Cut a chip brush at an angle. Use any alcohol palette or airbrush ink. Take some color with the chip brush. Then, flick the tip of the brush with your finger. This will create spattering effects. I used black, dark red, and red.

      Keep your eyes closed!

    9. After you are satisfied with your painting, spray PPI Blue Marble. (You can use any sealer such as Green Marble, EBA Pro Sealer, Final Sealer, etc.) I chose Blue Marble since it gives a dried look.

  1. Hair Application

    1. Hair application requires a completely different skill. Once you master it, you can do other makeup: age, period, character, body makeup, animals, costumes, etc. It is a very good skill to learn.

    2. I use Salt & Pepper color Crepe Wool. It comes in compressed braids when you buy it. You need to untie this and remove the wave. You can use a steamer to take the wave off, or wet it in tap water and lay it on a paper towel to dry. When you want to blend colors, you can use a hackle. You can also use human hair if you like.

    3. There are many kinds of hair glue. I used Cream Pros Aide for this makeup. Take some with a Q-tip and paint it on where the hair goes.

    4. When it gets halfway dried, hold a small amount of hair. Cut it at a desired angle. Then, push the top part of the bulk with your thumb. This will create angled layers. Keep the layer and stick it on the glue, and lift them up slightly. This will make the hair look like it's "coming out from the skin" instead of "laying on the skin."

    5. Add more above this hairline and create layers. Trim them as it goes.

    6. Continue this all around. If you put on a bald cap, do the same on the bald cap. Just remember, it is very hard to apply hair on a bald cap when you are doing this makeup on yourself. Consider making a cowl piece like the video before this makeup.

    7. Once the hair is on, you can use a curling iron in a low heat to make some waves if you like.

    8. Then, use hair spray to lock it on. I used got2b glued.

  2. Final Touch

    1. You have most of the look now. You can take a step back and see it from a distance. You might find something missing.

    2. If you have dentures, you can add them now. It will create a scarier look.

    3. Also, consider fake blood. PPI Fleet Street Dry Blood is pretty good. It stays wet-looking even when it dries. Use Bloody 5 Palette is for teeth blood.

    4. I added more detailed color with the Ben Nye F/X Palette. I even added dark red on my waterlines.

  3. That's it! It takes hours to apply this makeup. However, the result is more than regular Halloween makeup. I hope you can win the Halloween contest this year! Or even consider being a professional makeup artist?
