"What's in My Makeup Kit?" features my favorite makeup item in my makeup box.
Today's item is "Special Effects Guide to Real Human Wounds and Injuries" for makeup references.
Making special effects makeup look realistic is very important. Some artists might say, "just put blood on it." However, just putting blood can make it look either realistic or just messy. This book will show you "real" injuries. I normally show this book to my director before applying makeup. That way, you do not hear, "Oh, I didn't expect this to look too gory. Could you wipe it off?"
If you want to create dead-looking makeup or dummy body pieces, there is a perfect book. It is more expensive; however, it helps a lot since there are not many of these pictures on search websites. Just be aware that they are real pictures from crime scenes and please use these pictures respectfully.
