"What's in My Makeup Kit?" features my favorite makeup item in my makeup box.
Today's item is "Alka-Seltzer".
Alka-Seltzer is an over-the-counter medicine for heartburn. You can use it for a hangover. But I keep this one in my makeup kit for effects purposes. When you are asked to make burnt makeup, the director might say, "I wish we could show the skin burning or melting on camera. Well, let's do it with CG in post-production." Then, I will jump in and say, "I can do that! Would you like me to show you?" Alka-Seltzer will bubble up when you mix it with water. So, crush the tablet and put it on a burnt makeup prosthetic. When the camera rolls, I spray water. It starts bubbling up and looks like the skin is melting.
